Anna and I began the process of this production nearly four years ago. We existed in a post #MeToo movement and pre post-Roe V Wade world. It seems sardonically amusing to me that these plays which seemed so fun and light in the beginning have taken such a dark turn without intention. We often say that art imitates life, and that is no different in this scenario. We wanted to celebrate the delightful feminine energy that has been largely shamed out of adult women - women who are embarrassed to admit their favorite color is pink while also caught in a liminal space between needing to act masculine to survive and being delicate enough to be considered “women”. In looking at the future of these pieces, I am eager to more deeply explore the boundaries of the word woman in all its facets. This work-in-progress is only the tip of the iceberg. The hope is to keep going until life imitates art.
